PACT Standard

Our Sustainable Sourcing Tool

To deliver upon our vision of POSITIVE AGRI CULTURE and create shared value for all, we have developed a new tool for responsible sourcing: PACT STANDARD

PACT STANDARD creates traceable, transparent and responsible supply chains for cocoa, coffee, vanilla and tropical ingredients.

Specifically designed to anticipate and proactively address social, environmental and economical issues in an evolving agri-food sector landscape, PACT STANDARD generates positive impact on farming communities and consumers in a long-term perspective.

A human-centric & forward thinking approach

PACT STANDARD is based on 3 core and 1 cross-cutting pillar, each one divided into areas of interventions to deliver impact at every level. All interventions follow supply chain-specific operating procedures and associate with verification points that provide a solid framework for annual audits run by a recognised third-party verification organisation.

The third-party verification process shall respect the Verification Manual developed by Touton to evaluate the activities as per the targets and performance indicators on the PACT Standard. The verification is run annually,  at the end of the crop season through a combination of desk and on-site verification reviews.

The PACT framework aligns with multiple certification criteria and is compliant with European and international regulatory requirements. PACT Coffee programmes are recognised by the Global Coffee Platform (GCP) as equivalent to the Coffee Sustainability Reference Code, 2nd party assurance.

smart & SCALABLE solutions for unique supply chains

As part of our day-to-day operations, we understand the different geographical, economical, social, political, or climatic realities. That is why each sustainability activity is selected to suit best the actual needs and constraints of a given supply chain.

PACT STANDARD is designed to help our cocoa and ingredients customers choose and implement sustainability programmes that are relevant both to their CSR objectives and to the needs of the supply chain. Coffee value chains have to implement the programmes based on a three-year activity cycle in line with PACT's equivalence with the Coffee Sustainable Reference Code (SR code), 2nd party assurance, recognised by the Global Coffee Platform.

This approach enables farmers, cooperatives, or communities to benefit from the support they need in terms of training, access to equipment, finance, or education to develop their businesses and improve their quality of life while respecting human rights and ecosystems.

PACT Standard's continuous improvement approach offers the opportunity to co-design programs tailored to customers' sustainable sourcing strategies, considering their ambitions and investment levels in agro-tropical commodities. For coffee supply chains, programmes are time-bound to a 3-year cycle.

plant grow nurturePLANT is the essential first level to be implemented from the start of any project. It provides the basic threshold for meeting regulatory and due diligence expectations and lays the foundations for an in-depth understanding of supply chains.

The GROW level allows for scaling up programmes adapting speed or outreach of interventions. In coffee supply chains, GROW would be implemented in the 2nd year of the programme .

The next level serves to NURTURE the relationship with farming communities and their environment. In coffee, it should be implemented in year 2 or 3, but no later than the programme's 3rd anniversary according to the SR code.

OUR SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY

As field players, we are involved at every level of the value chain. Our vision and collective action plan for a more sustainable and responsible agro-industry builds on our 175 years of experience working alongside producers' communities and tropical ecosystems.

PACT, the Positive Agri Culture by Touton, is the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy, based on Touton’s vision of what trade will look like in the future.

Founded on our extensive expertise for managing challenges in our supply chains and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the Positive Agri Culture strategy sets 3 clear objectives: fostering POSITIVE GROWTH, building a RESILIENT AGRI-INDUSTRY, nurturing a CULTURE OF TRUST.

It serves as a unifying force, embodying our group’s values, due diligence approach and actionable strategies for engaging with stakeholders and ecosystems.

• Positive
In line with our entrepreneurial spirit.
• Agri
Because agricultural raw materials are at the heart of what we do.
• Culture
The relationship of trust that we build to connect all actors of the value chain: from partner-producers to colleagues and clients.

PACT Strategy

  • Integrates our group commitments and policies, including our Due Diligence policies for Human Rights, Labour Rights and Environment, Touton Code of Ethics, Supplier Code of Conduct, Grievance Mechanism, but also our Food quality and safety policy and our Climate strategy

  • Underpins the group’s sustainability report and anticipates key aspects of the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.

  • Feeds into our management systems and processes, informing several operational standards and ratings of the group, such as IFS Broker Standard (headquarters), ISO 9001 (in the Ivory Coast) or FSSC22000 (CTPC factory in Ghana)

  • Provides the backbone for our verified responsible sourcing instrument: PACT STANDARD

CLIMATE STRATEGY & CARBON EMISSIONS REDUCTION OFFICIAL COMMITMENT

plant grow nurtureTouton has officially committed to set near-term (2035) company-wide greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 °C with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). With 93% of the group’s GHG emissions stemming from agricultural production, we aim to lead by example by enhancing the environmental performance of our direct operations.

At the group level, we will also support supply chain actors in their climate transition by promoting low-carbon transportation, implementing a zero-deforestation policy, or enhancing the capacity of natural carbon sinks through agroforestry.

SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2024-25

This year’s report reflects Touton’s determination to maintain stability in the face of turbulence. Building on the key learnings and progress of 2023–24, the group has consolidated its practices and reinforced its impact across cocoa, coffee, and ingredients supply chains. Despite severe market disruptions, Touton’s teams have consistently upheld their commitments to partners and clients.

Beyond market management, 2024–25 was a year of strategic reinforcement across operations, ensuring financial robustness through diversified financing sources, advancing its CSR strategy – the Positive Agri Culture by Touton – and scaling its own responsible sourcing PACT STANDARD. The group also further progressed its climate strategy, while enhancing regulatory readiness (EUDR) through digital transformation and achieved IFS Broker certification, making it one of the first global cocoa and spices traders to hold this distinction.

Our Philosophy

Pioneering inclusive programmes that address the needs of stakeholders all along the supply-chain

Touton is dedicated to upholding its shareholders' commitment to sustainability. Building on its strong footing in the countries that produce the commodities it trades and processes, the company is pioneering inclusive programmes that address the needs of stakeholders all along the supply-chain.
Touton partners with actors from the public, private and civil society sectors to develop innovative projects that support the business-case for sustainable commodity production.

By doing so, Touton contributes to the preservation of resources for future generations and to reinforcing individual and institutional capacities of the stakeholders it engages with.

When deciding to start a new programme Touton consistently seeks to apply the following principles:

  • We endeavour to act where we feel we can make a difference. We work hard to conduct needs assessments before we start projects and to measure the impact of what we do.
  • We partner with the best civil-society, public and private sector actors to deliver results.
  • We ensure programmes are in line with the company’s code of ethics
  • We support and implement programmes that support the communities we source our products from when it comes to human rights, working conditions, and reducing/mitigating environmental impact.
  • We support programmes that are connected to Touton’s business principles, and that can become financially sustainable over time.
